The evidence

Poverty is on the increase amongst large sectors of the Biafran people, principally as a result of the marginalisation and persecution of Biafrans by the Nigerian government (Click for more info).

Over 50% of Biafrans survive on less than $1.25 per day, the official poverty line in purchasing power parity terms (Read more).

What this means
This means that many Biafrans are unable to access adequate supplies of good, high protein food, clean drinking water and are consequently susceptible to malnutrition and disease.

Equally, many have limited or no access to decent healthcare, which affects children and the elderly in particular. This lack of adequate healthcare also means that those who are persecuted and harmed by the Nigerian state are often denied lifesaving and/or life-enhancing treatment. Many are also destitute because of the loss of breadwinners through violence or imprisonment.

Thousands of Biafrans have also suffered injury as a result of attacks by Nigerian security forces and Fulani herdsmen.

How we believe Biafra Aid can help

We’re a new organisation and we intend to provide assistance to Biafran People disadvantaged by persecution because of their Biafran heritage. This will predominantly be delivered by way of financial assistance to support basic income, to fund emergency interventions to meet a range of desperately urgent needs resulting from violence or persecution directed at Biafran people.
